Night Shyamalan’s The Village
Jenkins. The plot of the film is similar to M. The story revolves around a mother and her two children who took refuge in a cabin in the woods. They live in complete isolation and suffer from hunger. A mother constantly tells her children that evil forces surround their home. The only way to avoid a horrible fate is to be tied to a series of ropes that have been placed in the basement of the hut. As the children grow into teenagers, they slowly begin to doubt their mother’s stories.
This film has several notable strengths
When they finally decide to let go of the ropes, a dramatic series of events takes place. First and foremost, the plot is clever and comes with a few twists. Although the general idea of the story is not at all new, it is executed with enough wit to keep fans of the genre entertained from start to finish. Another outstanding strength is the acting in this film. Halle Berry excels as a fragile, obsessive and strict mother. The two child actors are also convincing as one of them portrays a son who really believes his mother’s stories, while the other portrays a more rebellious, independent and free-spirited attitude. The two actors complement each other wonderfully.
The locations are also carefully selected
Both should have great careers ahead of them. The Old Cabin truly highlights the simple, regressive and difficult lives lived by the three protagonists. The forest, with its old trees, rough rocks and colorful moss, is the perfect setting for a story about isolation. However, this film is not without its flaws. The pace of the film is particularly slow, and especially the first half of the film needs resilient, optimistic and mature viewers who are open to giving this film time to grow. They will be rewarded with a more dramatic second half. This movie lacks really exciting scenes.
This is a very mild drama and thriller that could use a few more intense sequences
The gloomy atmosphere is present from beginning to end, but the film flows without any significant highlights. Ultimately, Never Let Go is a family drama, supernatural horror, and psychological thriller that convinces with a clever plot, strong acting, and tweaking of settings while suffering from a notably slow pace and lack of intensity. Therefore, Never Let Go is recommended only to mature, optimistic and resilient fans of the genre.
