Plot

Psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud invites Professor C.S. Lewis to discuss the existence of God, Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter, and Lewis’ unconventional relationship with his best friend’s mother. Lewis in The Zemlya Scene (1993) 30 years before this film. Lewis is shown researching the Gospels while a woman who appears to be his wife calls him to bed.

Variations on an Original Theme, Op

This film is set in 1939, but Lewis did not marry Joy Davidman Gresham until 1956. The woman was actually Janie Moore, with whom Lewis lived until 1949. [final lines] Sigmund Freud: From mistake to mistake one discovers the whole truth.. Featured in The 7PM Project: April 19, 2024 episode (2024).

He passes Anna Freud (Liv Lisa Fries) as she is giving a lecture and pondering whether to reveal her lesbian affair to her father. Meanwhile, the two men attack each other’s philosophical beliefs. And that’s exactly what the film is about: two men in conversation, occasionally interrupted by flashbacks to their youth and air raids to give this stage play cinematic credibility. In this contrived scenario — although the story goes that an Oxford man visited Don Freud shortly before his death, the claim that it was Lewis is a fabrication of the play and the film — they argue with each other, and eventually agree only that people are afraid of death.

well, Freud’s beliefs are at the end of his life (he died three weeks after the supposed events of this film), while he was there are many things Lewis said up until twenty years later. As for the fundamental disagreement about religion versus science, this is a non-conflict; being smarter people than I’ve claimed, science is about the how, not the why. Both men are fine actors, and effortlessly translate the script into natural-sounding words. I have no idea if Hopkins’ accent is a good representation of the Viennese accent; Kohli Calhoun is listed as a dialect coach.
