A marriage is threatened when the husband’s first love returns to town. The fundamental problem with this year’s PÖLP is that there were so few screenings of classic films, far fewer than the amount scheduled for PÖLP 2023. I, as an audience member, was torn by a dominant number of new green-handed films that play with concepts and techniques, but whose fancy shells contain few eye-opening and refreshing pieces. The lack of time-tested classics thus leads to a lack of spice for my nerves. Of the new films, however, Out of Control, made by the mature director Le Ny, stands out as a solidly established, captivating and emotionally complex pacifier.
